Health and Nutrition
It really is harder to be healthy in our world today. We have factories that pump out ultra processed food, the nutrients in our soil have diminished, we have jobs that require us to sit for 8+ hours a day, and the list goes on. Everything in our life goes against us. But we can take steps to make a change.
Food
What we choose to put in our bodies matters and if we make better choices about the food we eat then our bodies will be healthier. Dr. Michael Haun can come alongside you and make dietary recommendations. This would include a specific grocery shopping list of foods to buy and foods to avoid. Certain foods can slow your metabolism and hamper your immune system. Certain foods can fuel your metabolism, provide you with healthy fats and protein, keep you feeling fuller longer, and provide essential antioxidants.
Exercise and Movement
The body was made for movement. We have nerves, blood supply, muscles, joints, and ligaments that allow for that very function. The problem is, our jobs and our lifestyles prevent much of that movement. As stated above so many today have a job that requires them to sit for 8+ hours a day. Then at the end of the day we feel too tired to exercise because we’ve been so inactive through the day. Studies have shown that moderate intensity exercise most days of the week reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and cancer. Additionally exercise improves your mood, increases your energy level, reduces stress, and helps improve sleep. Strength or resistance training, specifically, positively impacts mitochondrial health. The mitochondria in a cell is the powerhouse of your cell. In a nutshell, this helps you feel younger longer by preventing muscle loss and energy loss. Exercise and movement helps joints stay healthy as well which will help prevent injury and joint degeneration.
Nutritional Support
As mentioned above the nutrients in our soil today have diminished over the last several decades. Our industrial agriculture practices, pesticide use, and unsustainable farming practices have damaged the nutrient quality of our crops. So even if we eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, we may be getting inadequate amounts of nutrients that our bodies’ need. The average diet in America lacks heavily in nutrient dense food and the foods that do make up most our diets are actually harmful to our bodies. Sugars, processed flours and starches, processed seed oils, and artificial sweeteners all wreak havoc on our gut health. That’s only to name a few. Gut health impacts whole body health. If the gut is not healthy, then the brain, immune system, cardiovascular system, and musculoskeletal system, are not healthy. Where do we begin to help support our health? What nutrients do we need? Which probiotic should we take? Are the supplements we taking helping? We could rely on symptom relief but that may not give us complete resolution and also set us up for relapse. That’s why Dr. Michael uses specialized laboratory testing for his patients. An at home gut test can give you a complete picture of your gut health. If you suspect or know you have a leaky gut, gut dysbiosis, SIBO, IBS/IBD, or other gut issues, then a comprehensive gut test can give you insights, clarification, and direction on how to address them. If you suffer from other health conditions such as hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, food sensitivities, or have had exposure to toxins, mold, heavy metals, these can be tested as well to help support your health. Dr. Michael also uses local lab companies to run labs on his patients such as lipid panels, metabolic panels, thyroid panels, and more. Make a health and nutrition appointment today to start a new path of balanced health specialized to you.
